A few hundred pensioners with low incomes will soon benefit from an additional payment from Community Care called the “Household Support Supplement”.
Explaining the new measure on Newswatch on Tuesday night, Government Minister Joe Bossano said the government expects to pay out a total of half a million pounds a year.
The new benefit will be means tested: most pensioners will not qualify. The calculation will be based on the national minimum wage level, with monies paid alongside the existing “Household Cost Allowance” which has been been paid by the charity since it’s inception.
