According to eye-witnesses, a Guardia Civil officer was asking for proof of Gibraltar residency of a number of drivers crossing the frontier, yesterday morning.
GBC understands that the vehicles being targeted could have been those with blacked out windows or those which were suspected of being commercial vehicles. It seems no similar requests were made of drivers of private vehicles. The measures were in place for about half an hour; GBC understands that it is not the first time such requests have been made in recent weeks.
In response to GBC questions, the Government has confirmed that an incident was reported to them. It is currently investigating the matter further, and will be seeking explanations from the relevant Spanish authorities.
