Frontier queues cause traffic chaos

Huge queues at the Frontier resulted in traffic being diverted onto the runway by the Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar Defence Police. This coincides with the news that Spanish fishermen will not be permitted to fish with nets in Gibraltar waters.

The Guardia Civil have been stopping cars attempting to cross the border in both the red and green channels. At nine on Friday evening, the wait was two and a half hours, with queues at one point stretching back to Catalan Bay, according to the RGP.

On Friday afternoon there were tailbacks into town, with an ambulance having to make its way towards the area against the traffic.  There were queues both entering and leaving Gibraltar, with those waiting honking their horns in protest.  GBC understands pedestrians were also taking a lot longer than normal to cross.

Since Friday, the queues have been less substantial.
