An 18 year old has been given a 14 week custodial sentence for burglary.
On the 4th of June, Michael Martin along with a co-defendant entered a bar in the early hours of the morning carrying a crowbar. CCTV showed Martin attempting to open a slot machine.
Defence lawyer, Ian Watts told the court that the 18 year old had committed the offence because of lack of money, adding that nothing was taken and that Martin caused no damage. Mr Watts reminded the court of the defendant’s early guilty plea, the fact that Martin didn’t challenge the evidence and that he's only 18.
Stipendiary Magistrate, Charles Pitto accepted the mitigating factors but also took into account Martin’s past record. Mr Pitto sentenced Martin to 14 weeks in prison
