£4 million worth of cannabis resin has been recovered from the Bay in a joint operation which saw high-speed chases at sea on Wednesday night.
The Royal Gibraltar Police and Customs worked together with the Guardia Civil after receiving information that there were up to five rigid-hulled inflatable boats engaged in possible drug smuggling.
During one of two chases at sea, the occupants of a RHIB reportedly began throwing bales of cannabis into the water. 27 of these bales, totalling 800kg, were recovered by the RGP by this morning.
A spokesperson for the RGP said this, along with seven other chases at sea in just the last fortnight, highlights the close cooperation not just among local law enforcement agencies, but with the Guardia Civil, in fighting drug trafficking in the Strait.
