​Action for Housing 'dismayed construction of affordable housing will be delayed until 2024, 2025 or even later'

Action for Housing says it is dismayed that the construction of affordable housing will be delayed until 2024, 2025 or even later.

Action for Housing says these long delays will worsen a housing situation which is already acute, and will not only affect those who have purchased their homes, but also those who have not purchased and rely on flats which might become vacant when the new buildings are ready.

The pressure group says the Minister for Housing keeps on saying that the Government has enough housing stock and does not need to construct housing for rental, but adds the reality is that the Government depends on those flats which become vacant.

It says these are not enough to meet demands of all those in desperate need for Government housing.

Action for Housing says the plights of those in urgent need of Government housing will worsen and will take much longer to be addressed, and those who have purchased and made their short plans will see them frustrated.
