​Adolfo Canepa receives the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar at open ceremony at the John Mackintosh Square

Adolfo Canepa has received the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar for his 'impeccable track record' in public service and for his many decades of voluntary and unpaid work.

The former schoolteacher has served Gibraltar as Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Acting Governor, Mayor and Speaker of the Gibraltar Parliament.

In an open ceremony outside the City Hall, Adolfo Canepa, received recognition for a lifetime of service to Gibraltar.

Outgoing Mayor John Gonçalves carried out the Conferment with a look back at a remarkable life.

An emotional Adolfo Canepa said he would remember this as the most memorable occasion of his life but reserved his biggest tribute for his beloved wife Julie.

Following the ceremony a Civic reception was held in the Mayor's Parlour
