Albares meets with Cameron to push forward Gibraltar EU treaty

Published by GBC News

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, says he has met with his UK counterpart, Lord Cameron, to push forward a future EU relationship treaty for Gibraltar, and a "zone of shared prosperity".

In response to GBC questions, the Chief Minister said he and the Deputy Chief Minister had been fully briefed before and after the meeting.

Fabian Picardo said the meeting also related to other matters, including the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, pointing out that this was the reason both Foreign Ministers were at the United Nations in New York.

He described the meeting as “constructive” and “positive”, adding that “all sides remain committed to seeking an agreement for a UK/EU Treaty on Gibraltar's future relationship with the EU”.
