Almost half of the cargo on board the OS35 has now been removed - some 16,000 tonnes.

Earlier this month, the Captain of the Port said the wreck removal operation is still on course to be completed by the 30th May with the situation under review.

Around 600-900 tonnes of the ship's cargo of steel rebar are being lifted out every day.

Meanwhile, the Master of the OS35 appeared in the Magistrates' Court Wednesday morning.

Abdelabari Kaddura is facing one charge at the Magistrates' for damaging a breeding site of a wild animal of a European Protected Species.

He is also facing charges at the Supreme Court for endangering ships, individuals, protected species and Gorham’s Cave.

He's expected to appear in the Supreme Court on the 4th April, and then the Magistrate's Court on the 12th April.
