Boris Johnson has been summonsed to court for allegedly misleading the public during the EU Referendum in 2016 and the UK’s General Election in 2017.
29 year-old businessman Marcus Ball has crowd funded over £200,000 in order to bring a legal case against Mr Johnson for three counts of misconduct in public office.
Mr Ball says Mr Johnson's statements that the UK sent the EU, 350 million pounds a week, were false, misleading, and abused public trust.
However, a source, close to the former Foreign Secretary, has labelled the move, "extraordinary", adding it is "nothing less than a politically motivated attempt to reverse Brexit and crush the will of the people'.
Boris Johnson is the lead contender for the position of Prime Minister. He's not been charged with anything at this stage, but will have to attend a preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, in three, or four weeks time.
