Calpe Electrical has been awarded the Government contract for the maintenance and operation of the Kingsway Tunnel.

The five-year deal is worth just under £4 million and comes only months after Calpe Electrical accepted full responsibility for a major power outage in April, when a team accidentally cut through a key cable near the North Mole Power Station. The incident left Gibraltar without electricity for more than five hours.

GBC has asked the Government why Calpe Electrical was awarded the contract following April’s outage, whether this was considered in the evaluation, and if any extra safeguards were applied.
