Chief Minister expresses condolences over death of Spanish Customs helicopter operative

The Chief Minister has sent his condolences to the Spanish Ministers for the Interior and Hacienda, over the death of a Spanish Customs helicopter operative in the Strait of Gibraltar.

José Luis Domínguez Iborra died early on Sunday morning, after the helicopter he was in crashed during a chase at sea over suspected drug-smuggling. The pilot and copilot survived but were injured in the incident; Fabian Picardo has also sent his best wishes for their speedy recovery. The Chief Minister says he has asked that the sentiments, expressed on behalf of the people of Gibraltar, be communicated to the families of the officers.

Fabian Picardo said the fight against drug-trafficking involves us all, with all relevant jurisdictions partners in this fight. He added that the Royal Gibraltar Police and Customs will continue to work closely with their partner agencies in Spain and around the world against this “global scourge”.
