Passports are required to cross in and out of Spain. GBC understands ID cards have stopped being recognised as travel documents with Spain asking the EU to accept them during this transition period ahead of a treaty. This could take a few days. Those with a red or blue ID card will not have their passport stamped. Third country nationals with a green ID card will have their passports stamped. The ID card, proving residence, is still to be shown because of Covid restrictions.
The change follows the UK and Gibraltar's departure from the EU, mitigated by the fact that the UK and Spain have reached an agreement in principle over Gibraltar’s future relationship with the EU.
