The Chief Minister has sent letters of congratulations to both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Joe Biden has been declared the 46th President of the United States.
Kamala Harris will be the first woman and the first person of colour to become vice president.
Together with the rest of the world, the British Government must have been following developments on the US election closely. It will wish to maintain the 'Special Relationship' both countries claim to enjoy. Speaking to GBC, the Chief Minister said the UK and the new administration have much in common.
The Chief Minister said Joe Biden knows the issues well having been involved in the Good Friday Agreement for almost 20 years. What Fabian Picardo believes we'll have is a UK Government that will want to protect the Peace Process and a US Government that will understand the detail.
He hopes we'll see a protected Good Friday agreement, a UK /EU Brexit deal before the end of the year and A UK/US trade deal and that Gibraltar will be part of both.
