The Coalition for Climate Action is to collect signatures for a petition in support of its environmental targets.
The coalition, made up of local environmentalist groups, says it met with the Minister for the Environment to present its case for action.
It says the groups involved have agreed to lobby directly and publicly for their targets.
Among these is the creation of an independent climate change body, funded and tasked with rolling out a cross-party agenda that legally binds all future governments. The coalition says this entity should address issues including pollution, waste, energy, transport and development. It adds it also wants to see a transition away from fossil fuels.
The coalition says it will collect signatures over the next few weeks for a petition to be handed to Government at the end of its "Parents for Future" protest march on the 20th of September.
