Colin Ramirez has taken over as Chief Fire Officer at the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service. Formerly a professional football player, he joined the City Fire Brigade - as it was then - 20 years ago, winning ‘best overall recruit’.

Mr Ramirez made his way up the organisation’s hierarchy, completing specialized courses and undergoing training on operational, tactical and strategic command.

He said it is a privilege to lead and support what he said was “an amazing and humble group of officers”. Mr Ramirez said the Fire and Rescue Service would continue to develop as a modern and diverse organisation whose ultimate aim is to keep the community safe.

The Minister with responsibility for the Fire Service, Gilbert Licudi, congratulated the new Chief Fire Officer and said he was sure Mr Ramirez will serve with the same dedication, professionalism and commitment he has shown to date. His predecessor Tony Yusifredo was also thanked for his service.
