The Government has decided to further extend the public consultation period for proposed amendments to the Marriage Act. When the draft Bill was published as a Command Paper on the 22nd of December the standard two-week consultation period was extended to three to take account of the Christmas holidays.
Now, having received numerous responses and in order to widen the consultation process as much as possible, the Ministry for Equality has announced that people will be able to submit their views until Friday the 29th of January. The Command Paper is available online at gibraltarlaws.gov.gi
The main effect of the proposed amendment would be to legalise same-sex marriage.
