The Minister for the Environment chaired a virtual meeting of the UK Overseas Territories' and Crown Dependencies' Environmental Ministers' Council, which looked at climate change among its main topics.
Representatives from 14 of the 17 territories took part in the meeting, which was held over two days. The UK Overseas Territories Association and UK OTs Conservation Forum were also represented.
Territories discussed their targets for combating climate change, and shared ideas and experiences in dealing with severe weather events and sea level rise. The impact of Brexit and COVID was also discussed, as well as work on protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of the territories. The meeting also resulted in a letter of solidarity and support to the people and government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, which has recently suffered a major volcanic eruption.
