Culvert contaminants have spewed into sea following heavy rainfall, according to Government

The culvert at the southern end of the harbour area has spewed contaminants into the sea, as a result of the heavy rainfall over the past few days.

This is according to the Government, in response to GBC questions after what had appeared to be an oil spill.

The Government says the Port Authority dispatched its Bunkering Superintendent upon notification, along with a service boat.

It says the GPA deployed its oil spill contractor to clear debris and oil from the inside of the South Mole. It says while the oil was contained, some "sheening" got away, but says no impact to the marine environment is envisaged.
