Customers of Gibraltar International Bank have been repeatedly charged for transactions made on Friday. In one instance, this has resulted in an individual being reportedly charged up to 15 times for the same purchase
Gib Bank says the problem was due to its external card transaction processor and that repeat transactions have now been reversed.
The issue is specific to Friday 25th February. With money coming in on pay day, many may have been alarmed to see it leave their accounts just as quickly.
Gibraltar International Bank customers reported numerous repeat transactions. Twice, six times, and in one case there were reportedly 15 charges for the same transaction.
One individual told GBC that their payment for a cruise holiday was debited five times, resulting in a charge of 18,000 pounds. The money has now been returned to the customer, however, the original transaction made for the holiday was also reversed so this required payment again.
Another customer said that various payments were debited up to five times, resulting in the account being 1000 pounds overdrawn, without such a lending facility. The money was subsequently taken from her savings account. The woman told GBC that as it was a weekend she found it difficult to reach the bank. She described it as distressing to see her money 'disappear'. However, all the funds have now been returned and she has not incurred any extra charges.
For it's part, Gib Bank says the problem was because of technical difficulties experienced by the Bank's external card transaction processor. It says this is what caused the duplication of transactions. The Bank says the issue has been rectified and all duplicate transactions have been reversed.
It has apologised to customers for the issue and the inconvenience it may have caused.
