Demolition works on the area of the former Parcel Post site on Waterport Road, in preparation for the new comprehensive schools started this weekend. In answer to GBC questions the Government says the knocking down of this area, will be carried out in phases with programmed completion by the 30th of the month. It adds, the contractor will continue to work weekends if necessary to meet this target date.
On the question of disruption it says it will adopt standard measures used in previous demolitions to contain dust and noise. When asked about specific building start dates it confirmed this would commence as soon as the demolitions were completed. The Chief Minister took to Twitter at the weekend to say the schools will positively transform senior pupils education in Gibraltar, seeing a massive investment in our youth. The new schools are programmed to be ready for September 2019 opening.
