A&E triaging patients in 11-15 mins; waiting times tackled with nurse-led initiatives

Published by GBC News

The team of professionals at Accident and Emergency are triaging within 11 to 15 minutes of the patient’s arrival.

They told GBC they are building up nursing skills and introducing nurse-led initiatives to reduce waiting times.

The 24-hour service offered by 111 is helping to signpost health care users to the most appropriate care for their condition, helping A&E staff to see those who really need their help.

A&E doctor Albrecht Kussner and Charge Nurse Elaine Ferro spoke to our reporter Jonathan Scott.

They discussed how data is being used to predict surges and organise staff - though the emergency department is inherently erratic.

And, they're encouraging you to use the 24-hour telephone service offered by 111; they'll help signpost the most appropriate care for your condition.
