The Environmental Safety Group says it's "bemused" at statements by the Government and the petrochemical company, Indorama, that the black smoke emanating from Tuesday's fire was "contaminating but not toxic".
It adds the scale of the cloud, thick with particulates, was vast, and that instructions were given not to inhale and remain inside. This, it claims, is the definition of toxic. The ESG says it engaged in close contact with NGOs across the border, the local media, residents and local authorities during the incident.
