Ferry options "ready to go" if Brexit makes land freight complicated, says Garcia

The Deputy Chief Minister says the Gibraltar Government has worked with private companies in Gibraltar to organise several ferry options should Brexit make land freight across the Gibraltar frontier complicated.

Speaking to GBC for tonight's special edition of Viewpoint, Joseph Garcia said ferry links to Morocco and Portugal have been prepared and are ‘ready to go’. The Gibraltar Government has also asked the UK government to include the Rock in its plans for increased use of ferries.

In the event of a no deal Brexit, the Border Inspection Point at Algeciras may be where food trucks from the UK leave the EU. The Gibraltar Government has booked a ferry service to and from Algeciras. The Deputy Chief Minister said it will start operating soon and will - in the first instance - run daily for a few months.
