Orange Bastion: 'minor fire' caused by hot machinery and petrol, GBC understands

A fire in the vaults under Orange Bastion is believed to have been caused after petrol ignited in proximity to hot machinery and wooden planks, GBC understands.

Works are underway in the area; one worker suffered minor burns to his hands and legs, with the Ambulance Service attending the scene.

The fire was described as "minor" by the Fire and Rescue Service, which told GBC it was brought swiftly under control by a team of eight firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus. The GFRS said there was very little damage to the area.

The petrol fire resulted in a lot of black smoke. The nearby building was evacuated, and the Royal Gibraltar Police put temporary traffic diversions in place at Line Wall Road.
