First day of industrial action by workers in metal-based industries in Spain saw delays

The first day of industrial action by workers in the metal-based industries across the border saw major tailbacks and delays for those travelling through the area of La Linea and Los Barrios on Tuesday morning.

According to reports in the regional Spanish press, the workers were impeding access to the facilities at the refinery complex. The protest began in the early morning, and was backed by workers from companies including Acerinox and APM Terminals.

It's come about as the result of a failure to reach an agreement on pay rises, with two days of protests planned over Tuesday and Wednesday, and a strike set to get underway later this month. The industrial action is backed by the unions UGT and Comisiones Obreras.
