Two men have died from Covid related illnesses over the weekend. Both suffered from underlying health conditions.
The first man in his late 60's, died on Saturday morning from respiratory failure, as a result of Covid pneumonia.
The second was in his late 40's. He died Sunday afternoon from multi-organ failure as a result of Covid-19 pneumonia and sepsis.
Offering his condolences, the Chief Minister said that in just 11 short days, Gibraltar has sadly mourned the deaths of 5 members of our community to this vicious virus when less than 2 weeks ago, we had lost nobody. Fabian Picardo added it's a dreadful confirmation of how dangerous Covid-19 is, especially for the most vulnerable. He says it's a salutary reminder of why we have to take care and why the restrictions we have in place are regrettably necessary and essential for protecting all of us in the community.’
There are currently 74 active cases with 14 hospitalisations and three positive cases in ERS. There have been 871 recoveries and 429 are self-isolating
Of the 5 new resident cases in Gibraltar on Monday, 4 were close contacts of existing active cases.
