23 people have been arrested across various Spanish provinces for their part in an ongoing crack-down on match-fixing in football.

The criminal organization is known to have operated primarily across Spanish third divisions, the Gibraltar National League and Primera División: the Andorran first division.

The Gibraltar Football Association told GBC it is aware of the of the reports in the Spanish media today and is helping UEFA and INTERPOL.

Today's developments follow 21 arrests made during the first phase of this police operation 'Operación Conifera' last year.

The process involved players communicating with the organization via encrypted messaging to fix matches and share internal team information, such as formations, omissions and tactics.

Investigators believe the total proceeds from the illegal betting amount to over €500,000.
