GBC will be marking National Week with a schedule of special programming celebrating the people, culture, traditions and stories that make Gibraltar unique.
In the lead up to the tenth, audiences can enjoy a mix of local entertainment, community memories, youth debates, Llanito cuisine, comedy and live events.
GBC will of course, also, be keeping you informed and entertained on the big day.
Special programming starts on Monday 7th September with a half hour programme dedicated to the community’s fondest memories and anecdotes of National Day through the years in a programme called ‘National Day Memories’ and which airs at 8pm. Then 9pm sees the series finale of ‘The Powder Room’ where host Justine Cartwright and her panel discuss the summer season, the return to school, and taking a trip down memory lane.
Following on from that is an original comedy by Hannah Mifsud, fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. ‘Trust me I’m a Doctor’ was recorded for GBC ahead of the Festival and will air at 10pm.
‘Pepe’s Pot’ returns on Tuesday for a National Day Special. Pepe Palmero and Magic Garden Presenter Kaigan Garcia bring a taste of home with the very best in Llanito cooking.
At 9.30pm, it's the youth programme ‘Voices of Tomorrow’ and the first of three episodes featuring impressive youth debates which took place in the Gibraltar Parliament recently organised by the Speaker of the House Karen RamaggePhillips.
On the eve of National Day, Wednesday 9 September, GBC will broadcast live the traditional National Day Mass from the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe at 7pm. Highlights from the Boat Procession will follow at 9pm, and then more local comedy at 9.15pm with ‘Nightmare en el Museo’.
GBC’s live coverage of National Day festivities, Thursday 10 September, will start at 11am featuring all the events happening in Casemates: the Stage entertainment, the Political Rally, interviews with local and visiting politicians, and all the ambiente. Then from 2pm GBC will broadcast a series of locally produced shows, and at 8.30pm the News Team will present a National Day Special News bulletin.
Finally, from 9pm on National Day GBC returns to Casemates for the live concert with a break at 10pm to broadcast the spectacular grand finale and Drone Show featuring 500 synchronised drones. Coverage of the concert will continue until after midnight.
GBC's CEO, Paula Latin, says:
"We are proud to bring audiences programming that reflects Gibraltar's identity, spirit and talent, while capturing the pride and sense of belonging that National Day inspires.”
"As Gibraltar's national broadcaster," she added, "GBC remained committed to telling local stories, championing local talent and bringing the community together through programming that informs, entertains and celebrates our shared identity."
