The Gibraltar Football Association has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidature for the 2027 FIFA presidential election.
The FIFA President us coming under increased pressure following his scrapped plans to privatise FIFA tournaments including the World Cup.
The GFA says recent developments surrounding FIFA’s governance have materially changed its assessment, pointing particularly to concerns over transparency and consultation surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal.
It says those concerns were heightened by the circumstances surrounding the departure of senior FIFA official Kevin Lamour and questions over whether officials are able to challenge decisions.
The GFA says decisions affecting the future of world football must be transparent, collective and taken through established governance structures.
It adds that smaller associations such as Gibraltar depend on strong institutions, clear rules and consultation.
The Association stressed its decision does not represent support for any alternative candidate.
