GHA and ERS receive Freedom of the City with 'Pride, honour and privilege'

The Health Authority and Elderly Residential Services have been conferred the Freedom of the City.

It follows a motion moved by the Chief Minister in July 2021 which received unanimous support from Parliament.

Although the pandemic put the spotlight on both the GHA and ERS, both entities had already been earmarked as a part of the public service that would receive the highest honour.

The recognition aims to ensure workers know they're valued.

Wednesday's ceremony however brought the pandemic home, the quick response and how our health workers stepped up to the challenge.

It also highlighted the personal sacrifices and how the workers put themselves and their families at risk, and their lives on hold, to put the community first.

Their sole aim- to save lives.

Recipient, Divisional Nurse Manager Natasha Cerisola recalled the pandemic days, saying the unity and solidarity reminded them they had not been alone.

The Chief Minister, who had moved the motion, said the recognition was well deserved if a little overdue.
