A Gibraltar-based degree in Operating Department Practice is to be offered by the Health Authority, in conjunction with Oxford Brookes University.
A delegation from Oxford Brookes University met with a range of GHA clinicians and the Gibraltar School of Health Studies to discuss arrangements for the initiative. This is according to the Ministry of Health, whic h said the programme would be accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council. Graduates will be able to apply to register with the Council immediately, and start work as fully qualified Operating Department Practitioners. The three-year degree will be offered in Gibraltar from January of 2019.
The Ministry says the programme offers GHA staff a unique opportunity to develop their knowledge and clinical skills towards delivering high-quality care to those undergoing surgery. Students, it says, will gain a range of experiences in the operating theatre environment and associated areas, working alongside medical and other healthcare professionals.
