Gibraltar's seamsters have been dedicating their craft to a show of appreciation for the British Armed Forces. This was a collaboration with the Flags of Thanks art project ahead of National Armed Forces Day later this month.
Spearheaded by the Sewing Soldier, Lieutenant Colonel Neil Stace, Flags of Thanks asked that people sew customised flags to reflect their gratitude for the armed forces. Three separate sewing events have been held in Gibraltar to encourage participation.
Those in attendance employed a number of different techniques to create the flags, which were all subsequently collected and are now en route to Salisbury in the UK, where National Armed Forces Day will be celebrated.
The flags will be put on display during the celebrations, and will then used as material to create something meaningful or useful such as a sleeping bag or quilt. These will then be gifted to residents of Alabare's Homes for Veterans: an organization dedicated to helping keep ex-service personnel off the streets.
