The Head of Spain’s Unidad Central de Fronteras de la Policia Nacional (UCF) has confirmed that the Schengen Border Code is being fully applied at the Gibraltar border.

However, he acknowledged that at times, entry procedures may be adjusted for security reasons, especially during peak periods to avoid overcrowding.

The UCF Chief was giving evidence in the La Linea court on Friday in a case brought by a police officer at the border, at times referred to as the ‘rogue officer.’

It follows a complaint from him regarding his superiors, claiming they have instructed him not to apply the Schengen Border Code to Gibraltar residents.

According to reports in the Spanish press, though the UCF Chief acknowledged there was some peculiarities when it came to the Gibraltar-La Linea border, he firmly stated that at no point has any written or verbal instruction been given stating that the Schengen Border Code should not be followed.

He highlighted that the aim at the border was a combination of efficiency in crossing and security.
