Gibraltar MEP Molly Scott Cato is to run for a seat in the upcoming UK election for the Stroud constituency.
In answer to GBC questions, Miss Scott Cato's office confirmed she will stand down as MEP if she wins the seat. When this happens, the next person on the party's regional MEP candidate list will become the next MEP for the Southwest and Gibraltar region. However, her spokesperson said that If this happens, Miss Miss Scott Cato will contact her constituents to inform them of what will happen next and who will take over from her.
The Green Party member has represented Southwest England and Gibraltar in the European Parliament since 2014 and was re-elected into the role earlier this year.
The Liberal democrats will not be contesting a seat in Stroud, making room for Ms Cato to wield the remain vote in the area. The move is part of a wider electoral agreement between the parties as well as Plaid Cymru, to step aside for each other in 60 seats in the election, in a bid to ensure one pro-remain party gets a free run in each constituency.
