Gibraltar to play Nations League home games at Europa Point Stadium

Published by GBC News

The national side will be permitted to play their home fixtures at Europa Point Stadium in the upcoming Nations League campaign.

UEFA has granted an exception to the GFA while refurbishments are underway at the Victoria stadium.  The decision means players will avoid a trip up to Portugal to play their homes games in the Estadio Algarve - the usual arrangement when the national stadium has been unavailable in the past.

The exemption will also apply to clubs playing in the first three rounds of European qualifiers this summer.

GFA General Secretary, Ivan Robba, said he was thrilled at the news, attributing the decision to the 'great relationship' Gibraltar has with UEFA.

Mr Robba also noted that a key factor in the decision was the progress that has been made at the Victoria Stadium, which he hopes to make an announcement on soon.
