Government to 'butcher' health service with cuts after 'decade-long mismanagement', says Phillips

Shadow Minister for Health, Elliott Phillips, says while it's easy to blame everything on COVID, the GHA is "broken" because of the "decade-long mismanagement of priorities and the wider economy".

In his Budget speech, Mr Phillips said what will follow is a period of sustained cuts to Gibraltar's health services, highlighting the budget estimates for cover and recruitment, medical departments, and the sponsored patients' scheme - the latter, he said, having its budget cut significantly from £15million to £10million.

Mr Phillips also called for the introduction of "integrated" health care so that the IT systems between primary, secondary and tertiary care can properly connect; and, he said it was "shocking" that no mental health budget had been properly put forward.
