The referendum on changing Gibraltar's abortion legislation is expected to take place by or before June this year, the Government has told GBC. The vote was postponed last year as the threat of the coronavirus grew on the Rock.
The question on the ballot asked whether the Crimes Amendment Act 2019 should come into force. If passed, it would allow abortion up to 12 weeks into pregnancy if the pregnant woman's mental or physical health is deemed at risk, or beyond if such damage would be grave and permanent or if there is substantial risk of fatal foetal abnormality.
The Pro-Life Movement has described the news that the referendum will go ahead as heartbreaking.
Gibraltar for Yes has welcomed it.
