The Government is inviting expressions of interest for the development of the Queen's Cinema and Queen's Hotel site.
Expressions of interest for the Queen's Cinema site were initially invited back in 2017, long before the old cinema was demolished and the current car park set up. However, a year ago the Government announced it would freeze development on six of its plots, including this one, to allow for a phased approach to construction in Gibraltar. At the time, it said the proposals received would be assessed in discussions with the relevant interested parties at different points in time.
In today's official notice, the Government says it will consider any mixed-use scheme compatible with the area, including residential and commercial units. However, it adds, proposals must include sheltered residential accommodation for the elderly, either for sale or rental. Applicants must provide plans and details, as well as the premium that would be offered, and evidence of financial resources.
The deadline for submissions to Land Property Services is noon on the 4th of September.
