Today marks 80 years since Victory over Japan Day, the end of the Second World War.

In a tweet, the Governor of Gibraltar said it is a moment to reflect on the millions who sacrificed so much in the pursuit of peace, especially those who continued to serve after Victory in Europe.

Sir Ben Bathurst said Gibraltar felt the lasting impact of the war, with many evacuees waiting years to return.

He said that on this anniversary, we honour their resilience and the legacy they left behind.
