Govt looking into reports of EES checks for non-Red ID Gib residents at Frontier

GBC understands the Spanish authorities have today been asking Gibraltar residents crossing the border without a Red ID card to do the EES checks.

The Government has previously said that Gibraltar residents would not be subject to full EES checks, with arrangements still being negotiated to maintain fluidity at the border.

In answer to GBC questions on Friday evening, No.6 said: "Legal residents of Gibraltar, with all colours of residence cards, can access Schengen via Spain without EES unless they request to do so.

Some anomalies detected today appear to relate to misunderstood instructions through the Spanish chain of command."
