GSD & Government clash again over vaccines for 12-15 year olds.

The GSD says it is important to put all the facts as well as educational benefits in front of parents and children so decisions can be taken on whether to take up the offer of the vaccine for 12-15 year olds.

But the Government says the Opposition is creating confusion on an important issue.

In its latest response to the Government, the Opposition party says by pointing to the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, it is pointing to the highest and most credible scientific advice in the UK.

The JCVI said the margin of benefit was too small to recommend universal vaccination for this age group. The GSD says it is reminding people of this advice when they decide whether to take up the offer of the vaccine or not for their children- accusing the Government of arrogance in asserting that the GSD is pandering to the anti-vax lobby.

Meanwhile, the Government says the GSD should not set themselves up as experts on a sensitive medical issue in a way which can only generate confusion and misunderstanding among the population.

It says the Opposition is creating confusion on an issue on which clarity is essential. The position of the GSLP Liberal Government is clear, it says: vaccines are been made available, with stocks generously supplied by the UK, and it advises all eligible individuals to take the recommended dosage.

In taking that position the Government says it is following the advice of its current and former Directors of Public Health, the Chief Medical and Scientific Officers for England and of each of the other Kingdoms in the UK, as well as most if not all EU nations and the United States.
