GSD questions Government's silence on appointment of Tourist Board CEO & operating from London

The GSD is questioning the Government's silence on the appointment of the CEO to the Gibraltar Tourist Board and the fact that operations would be conducted from London.

This was announced in March this year, with the Opposition saying there's been no public announcement on the new appointee since.

The Shadow Minister for Tourism, Damon Bossino reiterates his party's opposition to the idea of placing the leader of such a crucial operation as the Tourist Board, especially during this period of economic and financial crisis, thousands of miles away in London and not where he should be- in Gibraltar. He adds this is an area of the economy that needs locally based strategic leadership to focus on growth and jobs especially now at this time of dire economic need.

Mr Bossino claims the Government will already have spent, what no doubt has amounted to thousands of pounds in the recruitment process, having appointed a UK head-hunter company to carry out the task of appointing the new CEO. He adds the position remains vacant, made all the worse when the former CEO retired before the summer.

Damon Bossino concludes that even if the Minister for Tourism has chosen to ignore his press statement, he has a duty to provide answers to the electorate.
