Human error was the cause of Thursday's Gibraltar-wide power cut, according to a statement from the Electricity Authority.
The blackout began shortly after 11am. Power began to be restored an hour later, although the staggered nature of the process meant it was almost another hour before every part of Gibraltar had its electricity back.
The Electricity Authority says an employee of one of its sub-contractors accidentally dropped a heavy instruction manual on a control panel, causing it to disconnect electrical power and affecting all auxiliary power to the generating sets that were operational at the time.
The authority says an internal investigation is underway to establish how the mistake could have had such consequences, and to recommend measures to ensure it doesn't happen again. It apologises to all those affected by the power outage.
