Husband and wife found guilty in child indecent images trial

A husband and wife in a child indecent images trial have been found guilty on all counts. American Bobby Jay Simmons, 32, and 26 year old local woman Loren Robles, were jointly accused of possessing nearly 7500 indecent images of children. Simmons also faced a separate charge relating to one additional image. The defence suggested the images had been downloaded and accessed by a hacker, however the eight person jury did not believe this version of events and unanimously found the couple guilty at the Supreme Court.

The couple was arrested in June 2016 following a tip of from the UK’s National Crime Agency that an IP address in Gibraltar was being used to download indecent images of children. The IP address was found to be at a property in Montagu Gardens, where the couple were living with Robles' parents. When Simmons was asked by the police whether he had ever downloaded child pornography, his response was “I might have”. On the stand however he described such images as “repulsive” with his wife saying they were “disgusting” adding she had a three year old niece. The court heard though, that Robles had viewed the indecent images, including one of a little girl giving oral sex, whilst her husband was out of the country – and it was the evidence of this which had led to her being charged alongside him. Following the guilty verdicts, Simmons has been remanded in custody. His wife has been bailed until they are sentenced on the 6thJuly.
