‘Inaccurate and biased’ Auditor’s report damaging to Gibraltar, CM tells Parliament in Motion debate

The Chief Minister has accused the Principal Auditor of breaching standards of independence and impartiality, claiming the resulting reputational damage could potentially expose Gibraltar to the risk of being blacklisted.

Addressing Parliament, Fabian Picardo set out his motion to reject parts of the Principal Auditor's last report, specifically the Value for Money audits and the Public Accounts Committee.

Citing case law, statutory frameworks, and the Constitution, Mr Picardo described the report’s findings as “inaccurate, unfair, and biased.”

He said his argument is supported by legal advice received from a UK King's Counsel and expert in audit law, Jonathan Fisher KC.

Parliament resumes at 10am on Wednesday.
