Jellyfish nets not proving effective and may be removed, warns Government

The Government says it may need to remove jellyfish nets from Catalan Bay and Eastern Beach for the remainder of this bathing season, as they are not proving effective this year.

The government says it prepared Gibraltar’s beaches to be as safe as possible, including the deployment of jellyfish nets.

But the swells have created sandbanks at Catalan Bay and Eastern Beach and are moving the seabed significantly at these beaches. As a result the nets are not staying in place in strong easterly conditions and may have to be removed.
