The Managing Board of the Jewish Community has called on whoever is elected on the 12th October to adopt the working definition of anti-Semitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
This follows the controversy surrounding past social media posts by GSD Candidate Youssef El Hana.
The Jewish Community says it has no issue with criticism of the State of Israel, and says it enjoys an excellent relationship and friendship with the Moroccan Community.
It says however that it abhors any Organisation whose declared aim is the destruction of Israel and the drowning of its people in the Mediterranean Sea.
A spokesperson says Mr El Hana has wished that all Israeli soldiers should die from brain tumours in slow and painful deaths.
The Community says it is in possession of at least over 50 similar comments which do not disappear overnight by virtue of a feeble apology.
The full statement can be found here.
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance defines anti-Semitism in the following way: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
