John Galliano Met exhibition cancelled after criticism

An exhibition about the work of Gibraltar-born fashion designer John Galliano at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art has been cancelled following criticism.

The exhibition, titled “John Galliano: Horizons” was scheduled to open for the 2027 Met Gala, and would have included clothes, accessories, sketches and more from the designer’s career.

The announcement drew controversy, as John Galliano was convicted of a hate crime in France in 2011 for racist and antisemitic remarks.

In a statement, the designer said he remained “deeply sorry” for hurting the Jewish and Asian communities, while the Museum said the decision to cancel the show came after extensive discussion.

The museum said that details of a new exhibition will be announced at a later date.
