The La Línea City Council and the FairAssociation have committed to the safety of the fair going forward, following the recent accident involving a Gibraltarian child on a ride.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night and left a young girl injured.
Emergency services, municipal authorities, and fairground operators acted swiftly and in full coordination, ensuring the child received immediate medical attention.
The ride in question was sealed off and shut down as a preventative measure, in line with established safety protocols. The Council confirmed the attraction had full authorisation and all required documentation.
However, a joint decision was made to remove the ride for the remainder of the fair to safeguard visitors. The Council said it was relieved the child is now recovering, describing this as the best outcome given the severity of the event.
The statement recognises the need to improve safety protocols and preventative measures, stressing that even isolated incidents must be treated seriously.
Officials have committed to reviewing all security and inspection processes and to learning from the accident to enhance future safety standards.
